Delinquente - Tuff Nutt Pet Nat (2021)

Delinquente - Tuff Nutt Pet Nat (2021)

Bianco dAlessano fermented in stainless steel with wild vineyard yeast. The wine was bottled under crown seal to finish ferment, resulting in the Petillant Naturel, lightly sparkling style.

Delinquente uses certified organic southern Italian grape varieties from the Riverland, fermented with wild yeast and minimal invention in the winery. Con Greg Grigoriou was born and raised in the Riverland, surrounded by vineyards and the mighty Murray River. Delinquente is Con Greg’s (& team) attempt at making the best wine possible in the area where he grew up—an region that can be very hot and very dry, and often associated with only bulk wine production, the Riverland.

Because of the climate in the region, Con Greg has chosen to work with Southern Italian grape varieties— varieties which are suited to the climate, need less water and are naturally drought resistant, are late ripening, and retain natural acidity. In this way, the vines are more environmentally sustainable, and allow Delinquente to make wines with lower alcohol levels but an adundance of freshness and flavor. The fruit is sourced from two small family growers who own Certified Organic vineyards.

Delinquente is “delinquent” in Italian, which speaks to the team’s desire to always buck the trend, break rules and do things their way. To that end, all of the incredible artwork for Delinquente, from the labels, to cartoons, tees and even gifs, are created by their good friend Jason Koen, AKA “Ankles”. Delinquente is his passion project, evident in the intensity of his hand drawn labels which pop from across the room, and the deeply important and personal themes to which they speak.

Its so bright and clean intense tropical and citrus fruit bursting from the glass, it just screams drink me. Perfect beady, fuzzy fizz pops in the mouth, where the fruits are present but increasingly we see more of the herbaceous, savoury, moreish characters come through. Fresh, persistent, delicious a wine made for sunshine savouring.
