Mother Rock - Kweperfontein (2017)
Varietal: 100% Chenin Blanc
Vineyard: Single Site on the outskirts of Malmesbury
Vine Age: 42 years old
Yield: 2 tons per acre
Soil Type: Granitic Sand with Koffie Klip over Clay
Oak: 10 months in neutral French puncheons
Tasting Notes: Hay, citrus and peach on the nose while the palate shows lovely purity and focus – very well delineated, vibrant and vital. Not without depth, there’s a vague waxy quality that adds interest.
Chenin Blanc for this wine is sourced from a dry-farmed, southeast facing bush vine plot planted in 1973 on the outskirts of Malmesbury. It has been farmed organically since 2009. Much of the region has shale based soils, though this site has an abundance of decomposed granitic sand (adding delicacy) with Koffie Klip (ironstone) that brings plenty of power and minerality.
